Mohammed Saleem, PE, SE, LEED® AP



Mr. Saleem is the President and Principal-in-Charge of AES. He is the visionary behind the success and growth of AES into a multi-disciplinary professional consulting firm. Mr. Saleem has over 20 years of experience in numerous high-profile roadway, bridge, and infrastructure engineering projects. His career and accomplishments present a valuable combination of rigorous technical expertise with increasingly significant understanding of the business practices. He is equally at home with the new challenges brought by each project requiring a depth of understanding and a broad view of the context, and developing and maintaining strong client relationships.


He is a continual source of inspiration to his staff and mentors them to achieve professional excellence in order to realize the firm’s vision of growth and quality work. Mr. Saleem is passionate about his volunteer services to enhance student engagement in engineering in the public schools; he also serves as a judge for the annual International Bridge Building Contest for high school students. Mr. Saleem serves on the Board of Directors of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois.






Jameel Ahmed, P.E.

Director of Engineering


Mr. Ahmed has more than 20 years of experience in civil engineering, transportation, bridge, highway, roadway, drainage and sewer system projects. This experience also includes surveying, maintenance-of-traffic, traffic signals, drainage, grading plans, preparation of cost estimates and specifications and construction drawings. He is proficient in MicroStation and Geopak.

His background includes design of numerous facilities at O’Hare Airport, managing the restoration of Buckingham Fountain and design of parks for the Chicago Park District, design and construction management of Metra station parking lots, numerous roadway and bridge rehabilitation and reconstruction projects for IDOT and the Illinois Tollway, numerous Phase I and II bridge and roadway projects for the Chicago Department of Transportation, and managed dozens of sewer projects for the Chicago Department of Water Management.





Julian Gnatenco, P.E.

Traffic Engineering Manager


Mr. Gnatenco has over 22 years of experience in traffic and transportation engineering, including having been involved in numerous Phase I and Phase II transportation projects for agencies such as the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, Indiana Department of Transportation, Cook County Highway Department, Kane County Department of Transportation, City of Chicago Department of Transportation and numerous local municipalities.


His expertise includes major traffic studies, corridor studies, traffic modeling and simulation, travel demand modeling, traffic signals and arterial operations, traffic signal design, value engineering, feasibility studies, safety studies, parking studies, traffic calming, multi-modal transportation, traffic data collection, and project management. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois.



Dean L. Bauer, P.L.S.

Survey Manager


Mr. Bauer has over 34 years of surveying experience throughout northeast Illinois. His responsibilities at AES include managing projects involving land surveying and design surveys along with preliminary and final plat preparations, subdivision calculations and design, topographic drafting and design, data transfer and processing from field operations, and consulting with project managers and field survey personnel.


His experience includes: section corner recovery; re-monumentation of public R/W; property acquisition surveys; parcel subdivision; preparation and calculations for plat of highways; route surveys; design surveys; topographic surveys; stream surveys; construction layout and control; horizontal and vertical control of utilities, sewers, and structures; and coordinated geometry calculations. He also has experience in Global Positioning System surveys, data processing, and project management. He is a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin.



Ismail A. Attallah, P.E.

Construction Manager


Mr. Attallah has over 26 years of experience in road, bridge, and infrastructure engineering projects. His construction management experience includes freeways, roadways and fixed bridge construction. While with the Indiana Department of Transportation he oversaw construction activities, approved construction schedules and procedures and assured that projects were being constructed in conformance with the design plans and specifications. He coordinated all aspects of work with the Owners, State Agencies, EPA, DNR, Railroads, Construction groups, and private entities.


He was responsible for responding to construction/design questions and resolving conflicts. He also prepared progress reports and change orders and construction cost estimates. He is familiar with state and local codes and specifications, and has worked on projects for the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Indiana Department of Transportation and various railroads.
